In construction, success is never accidental and failure rarely comes without warning. The difference is found in the decisions made long before the first shovel hits the ground. Drawing on more than 60 years in the construction industry, Richard A. Reese shares practical, experience-driven insights into what truly drives project success. From architects and engineers to contractors, developers, suppliers, and public-sector leaders, every project depends on strong coordination, clear communication, and disciplined execution.
In Winning: Success in the Construction Industry, Reese reveals the factors that determine whether projects stay on schedule, remain on budget, and deliver lasting value. He examines the leadership, collaboration, and decision-making required to navigate complex projects and avoid costly breakdowns. With a foreword by former Mayor Robert Jackson, this book highlights the critical partnership between public and private stakeholders and the role it plays in bringing projects to completion.
Whether you are an architect, engineer, contractor, subcontractor, developer, land use attorney, supplier, educator, or project owner, this book offers practical insights you can apply immediately. In an industry where mistakes are expensive and margins are tight, winning isn’t luck. It’s built through experience, teamwork, and doing the job right.

Richard A. Reese brings more than six decades of experience in the construction industry. A graduate of San Jose State University with additional studies in electrical engineering at the State University of New York, Reese began his professional career with General Electric before serving as an officer in the U.S. Army Adjutant General Corps, including deployment to South Korea.
Following his military service, Reese built a distinguished career in construction and project management. His work with Owens Corning Fiberglas led to roles in construction subcontracting, becoming a principal of a major general contracting firm, and later establishing program management and owner-representative services for complex projects. His insights on project leadership and coordination were also featured in the industry publication Southwest Contractor.
Drawing from a lifetime of experience navigating the evolving challenges of construction, Reese wrote Winning: Success in the Construction Industry to share the principles that help projects succeed—bringing teams together to deliver projects on time, on budget, and with lasting value
